GRUNGE OLD VS NEW
October 08, 2017
Grunge has always been a recurring fashion trend
that keeps coming back every year with a new twist. I always think of all the
80's/90's rock bands whenever I hear the word grunge.
The thing is, grunge has been done so many times
with all kinds of new fashion statements. I've always been intrigued to find
out more about grunge as a subculture.
I think the issue for me is people have judgements
on people from the subculture and associate them sometimes as being rebellious
and worthless just because they dress with a different style!
It was a pretty easy decision to decide on my
subculture, I mean who doesn't love grunge old or new! I've always been interested
in music which has links and elements to fashion.
If its the Sex Pistols, to Nirvana! I love
that throughout the years music has become a distinct influencing factor on
fashion. For example; Kurt Cobain is one of the most iconic influencers of this
subculture generation.
Originally grunge was mainly a mixture of checked
shirts, ripped jeans and leather. Nowadays, I feel that people are more afraid
to show who they are and veer away from the original fashion of grunge. Showing
off a unique outfit or something you haven't worn in your wardrobe for years is
a must! (don't be afraid!)
In this project, I want to try and show a new side
to grunge and introduce a mixture between classic grunge up to the now 2017's
outtake on grunge (which can I add, how is it nearly the end of!)
Grunge style is my go to if its one of those (cba
days)! A simple shirt and the textures of stripes, checks and rips can
defiantly be dressed up or down.
Lets see how this iconic subculture is growing with
development of the current and old styles!
